On the 28 May 2009 the AIDS Foundation awarded the PATIENT PRIZE 2009 to the Youth Group.
The AIDS Foundation motivated their decision in this way:
"The 2009 PATIENT PRIZE of the AIDS Foundation goes to the YOUTH GROUP, which is a group for HIV-positives between 15 and 25 years of age.
The group was established in 2000 by research nurse Lotte Rodkjær and HIV counsellor Tinne Laursen from Aarhus University Hospital Skejby in A key element of the Youth Group is the annual weekend trip where the young can meet others in the same situation. The secrecy and barriers are forgotten for a while. This gives the young a much needed break where they can talk about HIV and other important and pressing issues in the lives of young people.
The Youth Group deserved recognition.
It is a good initiative and participants are brave because they dare to break the isolation and meet others in a community where they all help each other."
